This weekend was a huge success. I was so ready to clean out my closet (insert Eminem lyrics here…) and originally I was just going to donate and trash everything, but my mom told me her town was doing a town wide yard sale, so I thought “Why not!?!!”
I was a little apprehensive because I didn’t have your typical big ticket yard sale items to draw people in (appliances, furniture…anything that would typically make people pull over because “they had to check out what they could get to complete there collections of whatever!!”) I only had clothes, (Tons and tons of them. Ty’s and mine), and accessories (shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, etc) Plus, I had plans to go to a fall festival with friends, so I was torn.
After a week of changing my mind, I decided to just do the yard sale and just end it at 2. That left plenty of time for fall festival fun!!
So I literally did everything last minute. The night before, I made really catchy signs to put around town. I knew it had to be something that would make people come to me!! Here are two of the signs:
I drove around town and posted the signs the night before.
The next morning I started setting things up. I made sure what I did have was well displayed. I hung up a lot of my clothes and organized the rest on tables by category: tops, bottoms, and dresses. I organized Ty’s clothes on a few tables but I seperated his by sizes because I figured that the way people will shop for kids clothes.
I even organized my necklaces.
Tip: get an early start because you will have people coming as soon as you start setting up. A better idea, write No Earlybirds!! or Early Birds Pay Double!!
So after I was all set up, people we’re lining up to buy my stuff we waited. And waited. Ty just wanted to sell his lemonade.
(how cute is he!?!)
Just as I was getting nervous, people started coming. One thing I learned from this is, it is not about quantity, it’s about quality. I didn’t have the crowds that apparently were on the other side of town, but because I was the only one on the street, the people that we’re stopping, we’re stopping because they saw something that caught there eye ( because, trust me people were slow rolling and would keep moving if nothing appealed to them).
I literally sold almost everything for a dollar, some stuff were 2 for a dollar, but I did this so that people weren’t constantly asking how much is this.
Tip: If you do have many different price points, do yourself a favor and label or color code EVERYTHING!! People are more likely to purchase if they have a clear idea of how much things cost.
By the end of the weekend, I made over $200, which to me was amazing because that means I got rid of over 200 items that I was planning on donating and trashing. It felt so good to get rid of all that stuff and everything that was left over, I donated!! I didn’t want to undo all the purging by bringing the leftovers home. Overall this was definitely a good yard sale!!!
